A degree doesn't get you a job making films. Making films gets you a job making films. What is it you actually want to do?
I have a dilemma.
My Film Studies degree course ends this year, and I am totally clueless as to what I'm going to do now...
Should I get a temp job somewhere while also applying to loads of film and tv jobs?
Should I try to apply to a tv station?
Should I go to a cool looking 2 year film school and, if so, would I come out more employable?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Yours,
a scared student filmmaker,
Dave.

I want to get paid for making films, in any way really! But ultimately I want to direct.
I just don't know how to go about getting employment in the industry... Please help.
I mean, how does a filmmaker pay the rent?
Dave.
the degree turned out to be a bit shit, a whole load of airy-fairy discussion about arty bullshit and nothing about getting a job!
please, any advice??
you need to be more specific than
"I want to get paid for making films, in any way really! "
ok well i want to direct. but i realise i cant just saunter in to some tv station and say 'i'm going to direct for you'. so i want to get lots of jobs on films/shows while at the same time maintaining some kind of income...
Exactly what did you do in Film Studies? Didn't you read the prospectus?
I contemplated film school once......

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">instantly from that attitude your career lies in TV not film. Many jobs are highly skilled in the industry, you don;t just go , well i want to give that a go , or i want to give this a go, unless you work in cheap end TV.so i want to get lots of jobs on films/shows while at the same time maintaining some kind of income...
to be more constructive, if your footing as a director lies in cinematography then start writing to DOP's and camera men with the aim of getting a job as running for them.
if you are more the production side, then start writing to the production companies and try and get a office running role, theres plenty of them, especially in TV
but dont have this attitude of ill do anything, as it pisses a lot of people off.
sounds like they taught you a lot on your film studies degreee.
